"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." **— Aristotle** *Hemispheric Synchronization* or *brainwave synchronization* is a technique aimed at aligning the activity of the left and right hemispheres of the brain. #### Hemispheric Synchronization vs Audio Visual Brain Entrainment Hemispheric Synchronization focuses primarily on achieving a harmonious and specific frequency among both of the hemispheres where as Audio Visual Brain Entrainment (AVE) involves stimulating the brain with the use of external rhythmic auditory and visual cues. 1) Binaural beats (auditory stimuli) are generally used for Hemi-Synch whereas AVE uses pulsating lights and rhythmic sounds (visual and auditory stimuli) 2) Hemispheric Synchronization generally only requires the use of headphones (stereo) whereas Audio-Visual Brain entrainment requires equipment that offers light flicker and headphones. #### Stereo Headphones for hemispheric synchronization A Stereo system is capable of playing two signals, one from the left channel and one from the right, while also being able to play mono sounds. Stereo systems primarily function by the generation of separate signals for each of the ear, which is necessary for the production of the difference between the two frequencies (thus producing binaural beat) Mono sounds can be defined as audio signals that are mixed and then routed through a single audio channel, this cause the sound in each ear being identical (refraining from spatiality) which may not be suitable for hemispheric synchronization due to the use of binaural beats. ### Binaural Beats and Hemi Sync Hemispheric Synchronization widely use [[binaural beats]] (Auditory illusions perceived by the brain which is the difference between two different pure-tone sine waves) The binaural beat (which is generated as the "third tone" when the brain processes the two different frequencies), influences the electrical activity of the brain. this "third tone" causes both of the brain's hemispheres to synchronize the electrical activity to match with its frequency (i.e., "The third tone" or "The Binaural Beat")
