The Morninglord was a deity of hope and light worshipped by the people of [[Barovia]]. He was believed to be one and the same with the [[Forgotten Realms]] deity [[Lathander]].
The faith of the Morninglord originated with visions of an outlander from the world of [[Toril]] named Martyn Pelkar, known commonly as Martyn the Mad. The Morninglord's faith in the Demiplane of Dread grants divine spells as any other true religion does, though whether [[Lathander]] - who is known as Morninglord in [[Faerûn]]'s pantheon - grants these spells is hazy at best.
The Morninglord is known as a warm deity of eternal optimism and hope in the face of even the darkest circumstances. He asks his flock but to extend common good will to each other and to never let hope fade away. Like the Faerunian Lathander, the Morninglord is said to be the foe of all undead, or so goes the Midnight Clarion. However, afflicted lycanthropes are to be shown mercy. The Morninglord is not a lawful deity; he does not trust the law of humanity to serve justice. According to the doctrine of his faithful, it is their actions or simply fate that will deliver the punishment that all evildoers will inevitably receive in the end.
Several NPCs encountered in the [[Curse of Strahd Campaign]] are followers of the Morninglord, as faith in him is one of the few things capable of kindling hope in the desolate valley. Notably [[Father Donavich]] in the [[Village of Barovia]] is a priest of the Morninglord.
According to the [[Curse of Strahd Module]], before the curse of [[Strahd Von Zarovich]] befell the land, the Morninglord watched over the Barovian people from sunrise until sundown. Now, the sun has not shone unobscured for centuries, and the Morninglord no longer answers their prayers.
