Elminster Aumar (pronounced: /ɛlˈmɪnstɛr/ el-MINN-ster), most often referred to as the "Sage of Shadowdale" or the "Old Mage", was one of the most famous and powerful wizards in all of [[Faerûn]]. Born in the third century DR in [[Athalantar]], he was considered one of the Realms' most preeminent sages—whose name was known from the [[Sword Coast]], to the far-off jungles of Chult and the eastern Realm of Thay― as well as the favored Chosen of [[Mystra]], Goddess of Magic. Over the course of his centuries-long life Elminster had saved people of Faerûn from destruction or subjugation on numerous occasions, and earned himself legendary reputation among its people. The [[Oceanpilgrim Adventuring Party]] first learn more about Elminster during their travel across [[Lake Esmel]] on their way to [[Eshpurta]] during the [[Oceanpilgrim Campaign]]. They defeat a strange golem in his likeness and bearing his symbol - though they don't know it - on a nondescript island near the Lake's northern shore. They destroy the golem and steal a very valuable gem that seemed to fuel its magic. Upon showing the symbol to [[Lucy Dayne, nee Lackman]] she is able to identify it for them and expresses concern that they've stolen Elminster's property. He also played a critical role in many of the life events of [[Alustriel Silverhand]] and the other [[Seven Sisters]]. #NPC/OP/Canon
