# Cannes Cut First seen by attendees of the Cannes Film Festival on May 21st, 2006 and not released publicly until [[2021-01-26]] when it was included as an extra on the Arrow Video Blu-Ray. Nearly everyone who is a fan of [[Southland Tales]] agrees that the Cannes Cut is superior in content and structure to the [[Southland Tales Theatrical Cut|Theatrical Cut]]. Now I can hardly go a day without seeing a joke about some national tragedy. - In that era, it was still quite a touchy subject to criticize the PATRIOT Act. But as we've seen in the years since, it was prescient. - Surreal and absurd films have been blockbusters, particularly those of Christopher Nolan and The Daniels. I feel that audiences would feel less out of their depth due to media literacy. Is this just a long winded way to say it was ahead of its time? Yeah, pretty much. It is still a messy film, but got worse than it deserved.
