[Unraid](https://unraid.net/product) is a proprietary file and application server OS based on [[Slackware]] [[Linux]]. - [Website](https://unraid.net/) - [Source](https://github.com/unraid) - [Documentation](https://docs.unraid.net/) > QUOTE # Notability A powerful and well known tool for building NASes, home servers, and being used for wild virtualization gimmicks. # Philosophy One-time purchase. ## Cost A license [costs](https://unraid.net/pricing) $59-$129. The top-level $129 "Pro" license supports up to 30 storage devices per pool and 35 pools. It is unclear to me if only 30 total can support parity. Licenses are transferable to new USB storage devices only once per year. Unraid can only be booted from a flash-based USB storage device - a thumbdrive. There is a 30-day trial period. ## Source Code While Unraid is a paid and proprietary product - much of it is build on pre-existing open source software (such as [[Linux]]) or has been developed in the open by the company itself. The primary web-based management tool is publicly [available](https://github.com/unraid/webgui), although the license is unclear, there are signs of a [[BSD License]] license in the repo. It is mostly written in [[PHP]] and appears to be hundreds and thousands of lines of code. # Platform Support # Features ## Virtualization https://unraid.net/community/apps ## Storage It primarily uses XFS and Btrfs for data storage. It uses parity drives as its data integrity strategy. # Tips # References Unraid uses https://github.com/upptime/upptime for their status pages.
