# Boxer Santaros | Attributes | | | --------------- | ------------------------------------------------- | | Name | Boxer Santaros | | Alter Egos | Jericho Cane, Paladin, The Pragmatic Prevaricator | | 2005 Draft Name | (same) | | Age | | | Actor | Dwayne Johnson | | Profession | Movie Star, Aspiring Filmmaker | | Affiliations | [[Frost Campaign]] | | Lovers | [[Madeline]] (spouse), [[Krysta]] | ## Future Self The Boxer we see through most of the film is his Future Self. [[Inga]] calls him "a divine specimen" because of his potential to become a god, although he acts only as a herald and sacrifice due to [[Baron]] killing his Past Self. ## Past Self Deceased. Never actually on screen except as a partially burned corpse. Stored on [[Utopia 3]] hidden among the bodies of soldiers that the [[Baron]] has been running tests on. # Comics ## The Power It's never made clear in the film, but it is explained in detail in the comics that Boxer didn't write [[The Power]] at all. It was written by [[Krysta]], though he may have made some minor alterations to it (or he may simply have resisted her making further changes). She introduces the script to him after they meet for the first time in Nevada, removing the cover page that lists only her name. She tells him that they've been working on it together and convinces Boxer to sign a contract to begin production of the film and pay [[Fortunio]] for saving him. ## Chinese Tattoo While visible in the film, the tattoo with Chinese characters is shown clearly in the comics, allowing me to use Google Translate on it to see what it really says. In both the comic and the film, Boxer says it means this: > There is a path to end all suffering. You should take it. What is really says is: > The Buddha ends the path of pain and suffering. Integrity and love. Which is somewhat less threatening. ## Neo-Marxists Boxer is brought to a [[Neo-Marxists|Neo-Marxist]] event that included [[Dion]] and [[Veronica]]. This familiarity is not implied when they meet again at the [[14000 Nowita Place]] house where they are shot. While the [[Neo-Marxists]] know who he is and orchestrated the whole thing [[Boxer]] shows no signs of recognizing them. ## The Pragmatic Prevaricator When Boxer first meets [[Fortunio]] in [[Two Roads Diverge]] he keeps repeating some snippets of: > I **am a pragmatic prevaricator**, with a propensity for oratorical seniority, which is too pleonastical to be expeditiously assimilated by any of your unequivocal veracities. Later, when [[Inga]] calls the phone in his hotel her, after he answers she asks: > Is this the pragmatic prevaricator? It is never shown in the comic or explained anywhere, but it seems likely that [[Inga]] got a hold of [[Fortunio]] or his recordings of Boxer between when he first says it and when she calls him. There is an outside chance that it was a line from [[The Power]], but nothing like that ever appears in the segments of the script shown in the comics. I think that [[Inga]] was using this information to get to Boxer, similar to how Arthur Jensen speaks to Howard Beale in [[Network (1976)]]. > Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? Later in the comics and towards the end of the film it is revealed that [[Fortunio]] was working with [[Baron]]. However, Baron does not know where Boxer is at the time that Inga contacts him in the comics, meaning that Inga is one step ahead of her son, and while she is the one that later tells Baron that Boxer has been found, it is due to him accessing the ATM which happens *after* their call. Given the backstory connections between Krysta and Treer, it is possible that Inga was just keeping an eye on her. Or perhaps Inga has been taking a lot of [[Fluid Karma]].
