> **Domain/OS** is the discontinued [operating system](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system "Operating system") used by the [Apollo/Domain](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo/Domain "Apollo/Domain") line of [workstations](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Workstation "Workstation") manufactured by [Apollo Computer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Computer "Apollo Computer").
# Notability
It is a distributed, network-first operating system from the 80s with a very lovely brutalist minimal GUI.
# Philosophy
# Hardware Support
# Features
> Domain/OS implements functionality derived from both [System V](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UNIX_System_V "UNIX System V") and early [BSD Unix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkeley_Software_Distribution "Berkeley Software Distribution") systems. It improves on AEGIS by providing a core OS upon which the user can install any or all of three [environments](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universe_(Unix) "Universe (Unix)"): AEGIS, System V Unix, and BSD Unix.
# History
> It was originally launched in 1981 as **AEGIS**, and was rebranded to Domain/OS in 1988 when [Unix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix "Unix") [environments](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universe_(Unix) "Universe (Unix)") were added to the operating system.
The final version 10.4 was released in 1992.
> HP ended final support for Domain/OS on January 1, 2001.
