She had an three children with Antony and he became increasingly dependent on her for financing and probably for guidance when he went to war against Octavian in 32 BCE. Antony and Cleopatra's navy was defeated at Actium in 30, leading to Antony's suicide. When Octavian invaded Egypt, Cleopatra killed herself to avoid being paraded in chains through the streets of Rome.
