# Harpy Harpies are part of the [[Race of Beast]] and is one of the least fortunate among the races of [[Kaelarad]]. With their ability for flight and eyes that allow vision in the dark, they once majestically flew over all the [[Kaelarad|Great Lands]], but now they have mostly been reduced to mere servants complying with their master’s wishes, most being [[Acilic|Acilics]] with very few left free flying. Long ago, Harpies were the queens of the sky, flying over Kaelarad, brandishing their brightly colored feathers. But when the [[Great Forest]], the ancestral homeland of Harpies was overrun with [[Race of Elf|elves]], they were either killed, captured, or driven out on mass. When [[Race of Man|man]] got their hands on enslaved Harpies and put them to work, they developed a lust for them. Soon the capturing of Harpies was no longer a means to the end for the elves, and it became a lucrative business, a cruel one that survived into modern times. Harpy servants are usually used to spread seeds on farmlands or as berry pickers. Though rare, some are used as hunting companions and as a symbol of nobility. However, many harpies don’t seem to mind being enslaved due to their childish and naive nature. To the Harpies, maybe ignorance _is_ bliss. Most including their owners don't even have the knowledge or recollection of the origins of the Harpies. ###### Fabled Sky Queen Though information is sparse and any leads are either exaggerations or baseless rumors, it had been mentioned that a Harpy colony much like what would be in their heyday is still flying proudly in the skies. #### Lifespan and Appearance Harpies are a female-only race they reproduce asexually, they mature at around the age of 5, and live on average to around 30 years old. Harpies are small, usually only around 3 to 4 feet tall. They have human-like heads and bodies extending to upper shoulders and thighs, with bird-like wings and talons taking over from there on which can hinder their abilities to use objects designed for those with posable thumbs. Their wings are bright in color, usually blue and red and their talons are usually the hue of yellowish brown. #### History Harpies have existed on Kaelarad and especially the Great Forest far longer than man and elf, possibly arrived along with the [[Merling|Merlings]] in the Great Land of [[Meralic]]. Though their force migration by the elves supposedly happened deep into the [[Old Era]]. However, no records of their enslavement exist before the end of the [[First Era]].
