But during that conflict, the Yamasee and other [[Native Americans|Native]] allies of the English discovered the extent to which the English were sending captured Indians into slavery in the [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/Caribbean]]. While the [Catawba](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catawba_\(tribe\)) and [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/Cherokee]] had originally attacked the English along with the Yamasee in 1715, they switched back to support the colonists in 1716. About 7% of the English settlers were killed, which accelerated the takeover of the proprietary colony and establishment of crown colonies of [[North Carolina]] and [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/South Carolina]] in 1729.
