A hereditary fraternal society established by [[Henry Knox]] in 1783 for officers of the [[American Revolution|Revolutionary War]] and their sons. [[George Washington]] was its first President General. The society was open only to officers of the [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/Continental Army]] and to a few French officers, and membership has passed to the first son of each successive generation.
