Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette (1757-1834) French aristocrat and military officer who volunteered for the [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/Continental Army]] during the [[American Revolution]] and served as [[George Washington]]'s aide de camp. La Fayette was later involved in the [[French Revolution]] and Napoleonic Wars.
