1775 offer by the royal governor of Virginia to [[Slavery|enslaved]] people, that if they ran away and joined the [[Loyalist]] side, they would be granted freedom. Although only about 2,000 slaves ran away before Dunmore left Virginia in 1776, during the curse of the [[American Revolution]] up to 100,000 people escaped from southern plantations.
