A peninsula extending into the Atlantic Ocean from southeastern Massachusetts, enclosing Massachusetts Bay. The cape was home to a number of Native American peoples such as the Patuxet, and was visited by European explorers beginning in the 1500s. The [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/Pilgrim|Pilgrims]] settled on the cape at [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/Plymouth]] in 1620. The [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/Cod]] fishery called [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/Georges Bank]] off the coast gave the cape its name.
