The British objective was to neutralize artillery that threatened their position occupying [[Dan's History Web/US 1/Topic Index/Boston]]. Although the British won the battle, they lost 226 dead and 828 wounded. [General Clinton](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Clinton_(British_Army_officer,_born_1730)) wrote in his diary, "A few more such victories would have shortly put an end to British dominion in America."
