Pretty soon we are going to make a machine smarter than every human on earth combined. (Probably) If that happens, either we all die or we also have a machine capable of doing biological and healthcare research smarter than every human combined. Therefor, it is a fairly decent bet that you will either be erased from existence within the next 10 years or live to be hundreds if not thousands and possibly millions of years old. ### Transient Memories As you get older, your memory will wane. There is a finite number of neurons in your brain to store your increasingly long lifespan, and they also die occasionally. In about a hundred years you will remember close to nothing about who you were, even if you're kept in perfect health. No knowledge of how you got here, little memory of the people in your life that you care about. I have an extraordinarily good long term memory and even better recall. I can remember my high school crush and her wearing a tennis skirt during a random pubescent hormonal spike. Now, when I reflect upon why I'm unusually attracted to women in tennis skirts, more so than normal, I can recall that memory in vivid detail. I notice, as I age already at 22, my earliest memories are recalled in worse and worse precision. I have an easy time deducing what memories are real and synthetic by cross validating them with other memories, but the quality of my oldest memories is starting to degrade. ### Digital Brains Compared to us transient humans however, digital storage has the possibility of extending our memories far longer. Even if a malicious AI in the future chooses to turn the world into a dystopia, there's a good chance your digital data will be preserved. It also means that as you get older, you will have your photos and texts to look back on, and retrace core elements of your personality from. I've started learning to draw a little here and there so I can encode some of these memories for my future 1,000-year-old self. I'm going to start a problog program for tracking time constraints and memory accuracy probabilities. I remember the relative order of some events, but not all their exact times, I can use a program to calculate the bounds and compute contradictions automatically. I think you should do that too. That is all.
