# Corruption
At first glance, Corruption appears as a spreading sickness—glitchy and chaotic, staining the fabric of reality itself. It eats away at the edges of worlds, warping landscapes, tearing through gates, and leaving behind hollow echoes of what once was. But its origin lies not in darkness… but in light.
## Origin
Corruption is the result of a light imbalance.
In a universe defined by the balance between light and shadow, there exists a fragile harmony. When that balance is broken—when a realm loses its light, light itself reacts. It tries to fill the absence, to mend what has been lost. But light is not infinite.
When light overextends, reaching into places it was never meant to dwell, it begins to unravel. Rearranged by desperation, it becomes something else entirely.
It becomes Corruption.
## Behavior
Corruption spreads through [[Gates]]—rifts that connect one reality to another. It does not target darkness, but light. It seeks out sources of light like a moth drawn to flame, desperately hungering for stability it can never truly attain. Of course, the most powerful source of light is the universe's center; its [[Cores|Core]].
As it spreads, it manifests in various forms:
- *Visual Distortions:* Areas laced with corruption often shimmer with false color, appearing cracked like broken mirrors or static-filled screens.
- *Twisted Creatures*: Beasts, people, and even Shards touched by corruption may mutate or dissolve into unstable forms—light undone and reforged incorrectly.
Though Corruption is slow at first, it becomes exponentially more dangerous the longer it festers. Entire worlds can be consumed in a matter of hours depending on the severity. If left unchecked, Corruption can destabilize an entire region of [[The Everhub]] spreading from gate to gate, realm to realm.
Even worse: the more light a realm contains, the faster Corruption spreads. Realms that are peaceful, bright, or hopeful become its most vulnerable prey.
