> *"A demon is never satisfied with a mere trifle, no matter what they might say. They will use all devices to seduce and sway, grant every desire a mortal might have, but there is always a price to pay that is far beyond what any sane soul could bear." -Geneviève de Fer, Grandmistress of the Order of the Sacred Grey.*
While [[Sorcery]] and [[Void]] are poorly understood, the role that [[Demons]] play in their perpetuation and advancement is far more clear. For mortals (with a few notable exceptions), their interaction with sorcery is always mediated by dealings with demons, something frowned upon in [[The Eastern Lands]] and venerated in [[The Imperium]]. While under the auspices of the gods of the Imperium, these practices resulted in the creation of [[Immortals]] and other strange interactions between mortal flesh and the powers of Void, the East has always been far less understanding.
The practice of forging pacts between demons and other races is noted in the records as far back as they extend. In the East, those who embrace the offers and accept brands of ownership in exchange for sorcerous boons are called "demon-kith". Interestingly, because the Imperium views the demons who did not bow to [[The Princes of Iron]] as "apostates", even [[Imperials]] have no fondness for demon-kith. They see those who fall to the seductive power of apostate "angels" as weak, greedy, and foolish, devoid of the duty and divine purpose that binds the Immortals to their path.
Demons and those who serve them have always been a problem in the East, and those who dare to make such pacts (willingly or unwillingly) are met with both virulent hatred and terror by common people and the powerful alike. There is a distinction to be drawn too between those who merely work with demons and those who are demon-kith: one is a mere servant or stooge whether they know it or not, the other leashed to an Elder Fiend by sorcerous power who can exert a great amount of control over their property.
