The Camorra started as an Italian Mafia-type organized crime syndicate originating in the region of Campania and its capital Naples. It is one of the oldest and largest criminal organizations in Italy, dating to the 17th century. Unlike the pyramidal structure of the Sicilian Mafia, the Camorra's organizational structure was divided into individual groups also called "clans". Every "capo" or "boss", was the head of a clan, each of which acted independently and were prone to fuedin among themselves. During the Global Pandemic of 2045 the Carpino Clan stole a prototype artifiical vaccine forumla from an EU research lab and used their drug labs to manufacture it and sell it on the black market six months before the vaccine's trials were completed. Leveraging the huge fortune they tried to unite the Camorra clans in a 3 year campaign of bloody street warfare. When the leader of the Carpino Clan was killed he was replaced by Leo Carpino, who had masterminded the research lab theft. After the war Leo reorganized the Camorra into something akin to a facist orgaization, his charisma winning him fanatical worship from even his former enemies. After 30 years of running the Camorra Leo Carpino suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 53. Instead of replacing him, his chiefs established the Ordo Fidelis Duces (OFD), a splinter religion of the Catholic church worshiping Leo Carpino. Among the OFD's teachings is belief that the laws of nations are an abomination against God and thus illegal deeds are not only acceptable but an obligation of true believers. Today the Camorra's main businesses are smuggling, racketeering, counterfeiting, and money laundering.
