[[Parasite Eve]] Overall quite pleased. I enjoyed the short length, tbh - would probably be more pissed if I spent all my money on it as a kid, but I didn't so it's fine, haha. The story is a bit silly but I appreciated how they played it all very straight. Daniel Dollis is shockingly one of Square Enix's best Black characters, if not *the* best if you ignore **FF7:Remake** Barret. He avoids all of the annoying pitfalls and stereotypes that came from that era. The combat is interesting. The actual act of shooting is relatively simple, but there's a lot of room to bust the game wide open using the game's weapon upgrading mechanics. By the end of the game I had the ultimate pistol, with acid rounds, which also froze enemies, which also had the ability to let me shoot it and cast parasite powers at the same time. It made the end of the game a cakewalk, but that's fine, I'm here for a good time not a long time. The aesthetic is sublime. Truly the PS1 is due for its nostalgia era, and I'm happy to see it in games like **Mouthwashing**. It also is surprisingly well-aged as far as QOL. I didn't feel like I was fighting against the game, thanks in no small part to the polish that SquareSoft was pushing out back then. Only real thing I disliked was the Sewers. That section sucked and I immediately hit up GameFAQs to grab a guide and get through it. Thankfully everything after that section was solid. I might do a run of the Chrysler Building dungeon one of these days, but I also want to hold off and just check out **Parasite Eve 2** first to compare and contrast. I've heard it's vastly different, mechanically. And hey, maybe I'll hurt myself and play **The 3rd Birthday** too. We'll see! But yeah, solid game overall, I'd give it a 5 out of [[My Rating System|7!]]
