Today I will share with you a simple method for when you find yourself thinking about choices a lot, and not a lot of doing stuff. Whether it is about video games, movies/tv, or life decisions in general, this works for all. I decided to post it here in this gaming subreddit because this community is great and of course gamers too suffer from this quite a bit, even me.
This is a two step process:
**1) Introspection:** It is what it is, you want to lay down quietly away from all the distractions and just think about all the possible things you want to choose from. This can go two ways:
a) You eventually deep down find a single thing you really want to play and if that's true, you're lucky! go play it. What happens often is what we desire most is something we can't have, like a Nintendo game when we don't have a switch, or a movie that you don't have the streaming service for, or a game that is too steep on the pricing. So we just try to think about substitute but we can never make our minds up because deep within we already know what we want most but we can't have. For eg: for the longest time I couldn't figure out what to play and I starting believing gaming just suck now, nothing is good.., but that was cuz deep down I know I wanted to play Spiderman ps4 more than anything but I didn't had ps4 so ofc none of the alternative would seem appealing to me.
Anyway if you do happen to find the one, none of the next writing applies to you, you've solved your problem, if you don't have 'The one', read on ahead.
b) You don't have the one, the one you want the most. In this case do some brain storming until you're left with just TWO CHOICES, this is imperative, you get two equal choices of which you can't decide and then move to next step.
**2) External help:** Once you're down to two choices, then stop your thinking, relax and just ask your friends and community on what to play, ask multiple people and take a vote. You can of course just see who has the more stars on a review website. You can also just toss a coin... really.. anything external that can spur you to finally make a decision works.
This method is best of both worlds as you're using your own thinking as well as external help. Most people suffer from choices because they are into thinking that they themselves somehow have to decide for themselves...all the time and they just keep thinking. People often are either too lazy, too anxious or too proud to ask for help. This will also give you a reason to be more social as we often have friends and internet community but we don't know what to do with them. And keep in mind if you give someone else more than two choices then they themselves would get confused.
Of course this doesn't solve everything. Life is much more nuanced than this. Many people are there who have no problem deciding what to play, but then just jump from game to game without enjoying or finishing any, I feel that these people just enjoy the process of exploring the games and gaming more than the actual act of playing game to completion. An apt analogy would be some people just want to travel to as many places as possible, and others would rather go to few places but immerse so deep that they know half the language by the time they come back. Then there are people whose hobby is collecting games, rather than playing...Book people will relate! May be I will write something about all this later. Right now I should be studying. Thanks for reading if you made it all the way through.
tl:dr; cut choices to 2, then use external help to decide, outsource your choice.
