There are no level limits, because for some players such limits impede their enjoyment of their character.
However, beyond 9th level, improvements for your character come notably more slowly; non-Fighter type classes gain only +1 hp per level beyond 9th, regardless of their Constitution score. Fighter-type classes may gain up to a maximum of +2 hp per level beyond 9th _if_ their Constitution bonus warrants it.
Ability scores don't improve beyond 9th level except as influenced by very powerful magical items, or a spell such as a _Wish_. And note that such a spell doesn't exist in OSE.
Fighter-classes' THAC0 improves by one for every level evenly divisible by 5, once beyond 9th level. Non-Fighter classes' THAC0 doesn't improve at all beyond 9th level.
Saving throws improve by one for each saving throw category, down to a best-possible value of 2. These improvements come at each level evenly divisible by 5, once beyond 9th level.
Something to bear in mind is that beyond 9th level, the XP cost of leveling becomes prohibitive. We might play for years at a once-weekly tabletop game and not break Level 15. Now consider that online games played via posts move even more slowly. Is it likely any player will remain active long enough to reach 36th level? No, but I want it to be possible.
At level 36, you have three options: retire from adventuring and become a world-shaking NPC, transform into an outsider and exit stage left, or start over at level 1 as a reincarnated version of your PC or as a scion of your PC, with the following perks:
- Damage reduction 2/-
- Saving throws two-points better than for a normal 1st level character
- You _keep_ your previous stats (though they no longer advance with levels)
- Life Quest
- overarching imperative to right a wrong experienced by your ancestor
- or, hidebound to destroy a surviving nemesis of your former character
