We are told that democracy is a beautiful, progressive form of government, in which the people govern themselves. That is not actually the case. As they say, democracy is two wolves and a sheep trying to decide what is for lunch. In a pure democracy, a simply majority can simply enforce their will on the rest. Even if there is 51% vs 49%. If the 51% decide to murder take the 49%'s stuff, then in a democracy, that is ok. After all, "the majority rules". Which is just another way of saying "might makes right". This is even worse than naked nature, because, in nature, if 51% tried to enforce their will against 49%, and the 49% resisted, the loss and costs would be very large to both sides. Yet, that is what democracy is. Would you like to live in that world? A world in which a majority of "whatever arbitrary group" is used to make binding decisions is tyranny by the majority? ## Is our government the best? We are told that our government is superior because of two things: 1) We have representatives, who are wiser than the people as a whole. 2) We have "rights" enshrined in a Constitution, and therefore specific things can never be taken away, no matter if a supermajority or everyone minus one wants to enforce them. Practically, this is nonsense. Let me dissect each of these fictions in turn. First, the idea that we have "fewer representatives" just mean that there are far fewer people to bribe, coerce, deceive, or blackmail if the Controllers want to get their [way](https://epic.org/issues/surveillance-oversight/patriot-act/). So, they may actually end up being less moral, less righteous, less good than people in general. Which I think is a fair assessment of the current state of Congress. Practically, a representative republic means that 30 wolves and 15 sheep each vote and now 6 wolf and 3 sheep representatives are deciding what they all will have for dinner. You didn't change the equation. You just reduced it. As far as "inalienable rights" go, what about the right to own slaves? Or the right to drink alcohol? Or the right to smoke pot? Or the right to engage sexually with whom you wish? Or the right to the proceeds of your labors? There are innumerable instances of so-called inalienable rights being capriciously "granted" or denied by legislative (and even executive) authority "just because". And in fact, that has happened many times. Such as the decision to imprison Japanese Americans at the beginning of WW II with no due process whatsoever. What "rights" were taken away how during the Scamdemic? * Right of assembly? Social distancing. * Freedom of speech? Fact checking. * Bodily autonomy? We'll fire you if you don't get the shot. The list continues. Even now: * Use a plant or drug the State deems wrong? Go to prison. * Have sex for money? (if you don't film and sell it) Go to prison. Finally, even if the federal government is shown to be overstepping its bounds, despite the fact that a "speedy trial" is "guaranteed" in the constitution, it takes _years_ to have illegal and unjust laws overturned, if they are ever overturned at all. That is "democracy" and "representative democracy" in a nutshell. [[How does consensus work|Consensus]] is infinitely better. ## "Democracy" makes no sense Another problem with democracy: what is the arbitrary limit? How do you want to do that with 350 million people, anyway? Each community and group has different needs. Should we vote with everyone from Mexico to Canada? Or from Alaska to Chile? And whomever wins get the tax benefits from everyone else? Why not the whole world holding one vote? Probably, China and India vote to take all the wealth from "rich countries"? That may or may not be fair, but that would be pure, worldwide democracy. And yet, many people would be so unwilling to accept that as a solution that they would be willing to fight against it to the death. Hardly a solution for unity, understanding, and peace. The Controllers know this. Their greatest terror is that the slaves will some day wake up and rebel, demanding a world of justice and freedom. As long as the slaves can be convinced to fight one another, that is not going to happen. Back to: [[What is freedom]]
