The apostle recalled the framework of Jacob's covenant of service to God/God committed Himself in return to supply everything needful. His simple gifts of food and clothing, our daily sustenance, are enough to bring us all needed contentment of soul.
The Spirit was not required to give us heaven's reasons for what seems to us a rather poor promise, but He did. We bring nothing into the world. We take nothing out of the world. We may have many wants, but we have few bodily requirements –
We must eat.
We must cover our nakedness with clothing.
Therefore, we may ask for these without reservation from God in confident hope that He will acknowledge the rightness of our prayer and answer us generously.
