God asked, through Jeremiah, "do you treat the place of my Presence as the best possible site for planning and carrying out malicious schemes against others?" The planning of such schemes defines what takes place in a den of thieves. Thieves work together only so long as it suits the greed of each one. They trust no one. But they will gather in a group to swap ideas and, of course, to hide from any pursuers. God answered His own rhetorical question – I see you. These thieves were never hidden from Him, least of all in His own house.
