# What is Rogue History Notes? ![[Nodes.jpeg]] Rogue History Notes, a central component of my Ph.D. project, [[61.02 Dissertation Proposal| A Tetarteron for Your Thoughts]], is an Open-Access Notebook (OAN) of my dissertation research notes, experiments, queries, and musings, documented in a future-proof plain text format called Markdown (.md). In essence, an open-access digital repository. The OAN project is designed to promote *[[18.14 Generous Thinking]]* and collaborative research in [[90.05 East Roman Studies|East Roman Studies]] and beyond. Moreover, the project is a multidisciplinary undertaking that intends to highlight **_process_** as Digital Public History.[^1] The notebook uses [[17.00 Obsidian.md Index|Obsidian.md]] and [Obsidian Publish](https://obsidian.md/publish) to make public my scholarly research for academic and public outreach and engagement. Obsidian.md is a free, community-driven program for Personal Knowledge Management (PKM), while its publishing feature is a paid service. >[!danger] Important The open-access notebook (OAN), inclusive of all pages, notes, and ideas within the site, is in constant negotiation and dialogue. Knowledge production is not static; ideas, thoughts, and discourse are malleable and continually evolving. Thus, items within the OAN will evolve and transform as my research progresses, possibly repositioning itself within the site. Transparent *processes* are an integral part of my research. Process implies a movement towards a direction(s): "a systematic series of actions directed to some end" ([ Dictionary.com](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/process)).[^2] But in the Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines, most research processes are hidden or convoluted.[^3] I aim to disrupt these processes in [[90.05 East Roman Studies]] and un-muddy the waters in order to promote a more open dialogue where the public and scholarly community collaborate to challenge traditional historical narratives and promote new forms of historical meaning-making. No scholarly output is isolated or singularly built upon itself.[^4] All intellectual work depends on and builds off other scholarly and [[public(s)]] research, i.e., oral history. Acknowledging all academic and public work to which my research is indebted is a central tenet for my dissertation's publication, which now brings me to [[03 Land acknowledgements]] --- # Technical Issues >[!Bug] BUGS/Technical Issues > Bugs are everywhere. They find their way into all sorts of nooks and crannies - even digital spaces. That is to say, digital things break, shut down, and operate in weird and wacky ways from time to time. If you encounter a bug in the operation of the site, glitches in the OAN, or just general UI/UX issues, please email me at scottcoleman AT cmail DOT carleton DOT ca ([email protected]). I will do my best to respond promptly and resolve the issue. --- # Institutional Support This project is supported in part by funding from [Carleton University](https://carleton.ca/history/) ![[B_Logo_History.jpg#center|700]] and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council [SSHRC](https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.aspx) ![[sshrc-fip-full-reverse-fra.png]] # Supervisor #### [Dr. Shawn Graham | Carleton University](https://carleton.ca/history/people/shawn-graham/) (PhD University of Reading, 2002) - [Dr. Shawn M.
