### Microbiology
Mold, a zygomyces. *S*. *erythrospora*, *S*. *vasiformis*.
### Epidemiologic Risks
Found in the soil.
At least one case after aesthetic breast augmentation surgery in medical tourism. [^2]
One case from a magpie peck; [^4] another from a tattoo. [^5]
Often fatal even in normal hosts.
### Syndromes
Soft-tissue infections after penetrating trauma (like combat wounds) and burns. [^1]
*[[Saksenaea]]* *vasiformis* causes fulminant [[Necrotizing Fasciitis]] in normal hosts.
Occasional invasive disease in the immunoincompetent.
### Treatment
[[Amphotericin B]] with surgery.
[[Posaconazole]] looks promising. [^3]
