# The Best Self-Help Books For Mindfulness Meditation
The course has to be approachable but also evidence-based. Evidence-based because if you don't get a good grounding in [[Mindfulness|mindfulness]] then everything else you try on top of it will be fragile or confusing. So, I will choose one of the [[MBCT]]/[[MBSR]] books.
[[Mark Williams]] is the MBCT person, and [[Jon Kabat-Zinn]] is the MBSR person. I think Mark Williams is more succinct, which is useful when you are distressed.
There are two books which form a pair because depression is the problem of low energy and being frantic is the problem of high energy. So pick the direction you need to go with your energy and start there. The programme itself is the same: an 8 week mindfulness course.
