# SMART Principle
## Notes
to make a goal have more (Jump:: [[Clarity]]), it should be defined according to the S.M.A.R.T principle:
1. **Specific** - what it is you are trying to get? make is as clear as possible instead of "being healthy", try "enter a workout and dietary regime"
2. **Measurable** - how will you know that you have succeeded? define the goal in a way that can be measured if it has been achieved or not. instead of "start working out", try "3 workouts of at least 40 minutes a week"
3. **Assignable** - Who would be in charge of fulfilling that goal? In a personal settings it's pretty obvious, but when talking about team or company goals, it should be clear who is responsible for this task.
4. **Realistic** - Be realistic. Setting a goal too high can be discouraging, also we tend to overestimate our capabilities when planning. For example, if you hadn't workout yet a day in your life, instead of "3 workouts of at least 40 minutes a week", try "2 workouts of at least 20 minutes a week"
5. **Time-related** - When will we check whether the goal has been achieved or not? We need a clear deadline not only to motivate yourself but also to give any meaning to the goal. A goal without a deadline is a daydream. So instead of "2 workouts of at least 20 minutes a week" , try "2 workouts of at least 20 minutes a week for at least 40 weeks straight up to December".
