# 5 Minute Rule
## Notes
We all have those tasks or even goals that we say we'll do but never do, whether because we are afraid, unmotivated, or simply "lazy" (Reminds:: [[Akrasia|Insight Gap]]) (Jump:: [[Procrastination]]).
The 5 minute trick can help us start them and progress slowly but consistently each time.
The idea is simple, instead of having trying to complete everything at a single session, or trying to create a difficult habit such as working out for 40 minutes every day, (Supports:: [[Start Small]]), try to do only **for just 5 minutes**. The key is to create (Aka:: [[Momentum]]).
Often, saying to ourselves that we will only do it for 5 minutes is enough to combat the procrastination, yet once we get going we feel that it is (Aka:: [[Friction|easier]]) to continue with it, going beyond those 5 minutes to maybe 10, 20, or 30. However, don't feel obligated to do so, **the advantage of the 5 minute rule comes from the attractiveness of doing it for just 5 minutes and having the complete guilt-free liberty to stop afterwards**.
