# Habits

Habits are all about creating routines that are easy to maintain, that generates [[Momentum]] and have a [[Compounding]] effect on our lives. When we have good habits in place, we can [[Trust the Process]] to lead us to our goals while focusing only on the next step/iteration.
### How Habit Forms

2. [[Genetic Switches]] - Habits can affect our DNA by switching certain genes on or off (and even carry to our children)
3. [[Habit formation]] - through repeated actions that are fit for automation.
### How to Maintain a Habit
In general, follow these rules:
1. Make it fun - For example [[Gamification]] and [[Temptation Bundling]]
2. Make it easy - [[Friction]] - (for example with [[the 20 seconds rule]] )
3. Make it short - [[5 minute rule]] (or at least commit only to short periods)
### Examples of Habits
1. [[Daily checkups]] - a routine to make sure that our minute-by-minute behavior matches our goals
2. [[Morning, Afternoon and Night routines]] - To close the day and open the new one in the most effective way
3. [[The 5 Hour Rule]] - dedicate an hour a day to studying
4. [[Periodical Review]] - check up on yourself, your progress and your habits once in a while.
5. [[Sleep]] - A keystone habit that affects everything else
