A _Metal-semiconductor junction_ is any structure where a [metal](Metals) comes into physical contact with a [semiconductor.](Semiconductors) Depending on the particular [Fermi energies](Fermi%20energy) of the metal and semiconductor as well as on the [valence band](Valence%20bands) and [conduction band](conduction%20bands.md) of the semiconductor.
