# When You Wish Upon A Sword
## [[Legend Lore]]:
### [[Demonomicon]]
Since you still don't know the name of this book for certain, it's clear that the information that Archie can pull is limited and potentially irrelevant. A basic description of the book as it appeared in the vision at [[the Runestone]] (A large book, wreathed in magical flames, a powerful fiendish claw wrought of metal displayed on the front cover, and sealed by a skull-shaped clasp) reveals some info.
An expansive treatise documenting the [[Abyss]]’s infinite layers and inhabitants, [[Demonomicon]] of [[Iggwilv]] is the most thorough and blasphemous tome of demonology in the multiverse. The tome recounts both the oldest and most current profanities of the [[Abyss]] and demons.
### The [[Preivantix]]
The only additional information that you get (beyond the info that you had already received from Master Umlin) is that three of the hags are thought to have maintained a coven in [[the Vast Swamp]] for the past 2 centuries.
### [[Dispater]]
[[Dispater]] ruled over the narcissistically named layer of Dis, the outskirts of which were interspersed with rolling hills plagued by hellcats, wild [[Erinyes]] and, supposedly, moving pillars of stone. The majority of Dis however was a flat, blasted plain with only occasional rises in the ground, or precipitous mountains filled with iron ore that created a maze of canyons between them. Iron bastions on rocky pinnacles filled with garrisons watched over the canyons and the iron roads paved within them. The cloudless skies were a thick gray-green, sometimes illuminated by flickers of lightning and the faint echoes of thunder, and were plagued by unending winds that fiercely and unpredictably hurled earthbound travelers through the air and made flying an ordeal for those that hadn't spent years learning its patterns.
Dis shared its name both with its master and the city that comprised most of it, the largest and most well-known domain in Hell otherwise known as the Iron City or the City of Pain. It was speculated that the layer and city were actually one in the same since the Iron City seeming infinite in size from the inside.
[[Dispater]] was an archduke of unimaginable age, ancient even by the standards of his peers. Untold eons had passed since he first rose to power to the point where his origin could no longer be remembered by most. If the tale of the [[The Pact Primeval]] was to be believed, he was formerly an angel who worked with [[Asmodeus]], [[Mephistopheles]], and other dark angels, and would become the first [[Erinyes]] to transform the barren wasteland of Hell into an industrious plane of torture and punishment.
[[Dispater]] was thought to have mediated the deal between [[Tiamat]] and the [[Githyanki]]. [[Dispater]] received [[Gith]]'s soul as insurance for [[Tiamat]], who would be granting the [[Githyanki]] red dragon mounts. Unfortunately for the Lady of Avarice she unknowingly violated the terms of the agreement by demanding the [[Githyanki]] assist her in one of her battles, not in itself a violation and indeed a part of the pact. Unbeknownst to her, one of [[Gith]]'s last requirements was that the [[Githyanki]] always carried on the [[The Eternal Crusade]] against the [[Mind Flayers]], and by ordering them to temporarily put it aside she had broken the deal and released [[Gith]]'s soul from [[Dispater]]'s coffers.
### [[Ver'ith Zavare]]
She is old enough to show up in the book, but her historical (in)significance thus far results in the same information that you already have available in the other handouts in Roll20. Nothing new.
### [[Anodius]]
An aasimar bard and playwright best known for [[The Trial of Asmodeus]], a play depicting a contract between [[Asmodeus]], Lord of Hell, and [[Primus]], being of Law. He is so obscure that most who know of the play cannot even recall the author's name.
### [[Talvin the Wanderer]]
Many rumors abound regarding what ultimately happened to the renowned gnomish bard. However, few have been confirmed in the historical records compiled after his disappearance. Since Archie is looking for specific information regarding a fiendish pact, he does locate a rumor/assumption that of all the Lords of the Nine, it seems most likely that a sage/scholar/historian like [[Talvin the Wanderer|Talvin]] would have the most to gain from a pact with [[Mephistopheles]] or one of his lieutenants. The book makes it clear that this is nothing more than conjecture.
### [[Maeus]]
The capital of [[Timaeus]] is the primary port city and trade hub for the nation, although its economy is not like most major cities in Aventyr. Founded as a magocracy nearly 900 years ago, [[Timaeus]] operates as a form of government where only those with ability in magic can wield executive power. Those mages who control the government also dominate the mercantile affairs, and so the economy of [[Maeus]] is driven primarily by trade in magical artifacts, potions, and arcane education. Most outsiders are not allowed to participate in significant governmental or economic affairs, except in their capacity as buyers of the nation's arcane products and services. It is a very tightly veiled community in every sense.
The most well-known, and most influential, arcane academy in [[Maeus]] is [[The Conclave of Haldarin]].
