No matter the requirement, [[Clan Handzus]] can provide an expert on the matter. With so many members sitting in counsel to the highest offices—in both [[Embla]] and beyond—many suspect the true trade this merchant house conducts is that of covert information. Tueor Handzus operates under a simple motto: “_The wise will always best the ignorant_.” She believes that knowledge solves all problems, even if it takes a dwarf’s lifetime to gain that knowledge.  “[[Holoth]] is full of drow who respect only three things:  Power, Wealth, and Murder.  They use the third in their pursuit of the other two.  As merchants and purveyors of knowledge, my clan has learned that this universal truth can be used to predict drow behavior somewhat infallibly.  The great houses can be counted upon for their greed, and thus, they may be manipulated by means of it.  Should you find yourselves in negotiations with the drow, you must keep this in mind for your own safety.  The moment that you have nothing valuable to offer, you will be discarded.  But if you have access to something the drow want, you can keep the scales balanced in your favor.” “It seems quite simple when you view the play and the prophecy together in the same context.  In the play, which many believe to be a retelling of true events, [[Asmodeus]] is inflicted with a single weakness - [[The Ruby Rod]].  It guarantees his and his minions’ adherence to law and contractual obligations.  He cannot break any contract into which his underlings enter.  Therefore, a petitioner who had something of significant value to the Lord of [[Nessus]], or any of the Lords of the Nine for that matter, could potentially negotiate a contract that would put the armies of the hells at his or her disposal.  One could use that power to release the devils on their enemies, but one could also choose to keep the devils from standing in the way of their allies.  Much like the drow, those of infernal nature are driven by a lust for power. The question becomes, what power can a mortal offer a devil without truly risking his or her own soul.” “It is known that the balanced state of [[The Blood War]] benefits those of us in the material plane by holding back the tides of evil.  The devils and the demons focus their efforts against each other rather than being allowed to run amok in our realm.  If the subject of the prophecy can manipulate the devil lords’ nature and give an upper hand to the Princes of the [[Abyss]], the tide could shift significantly, and our world would be in peril.  Demonic armies would find their way to our plane of existence, and we would not have the power to stand against them.  At the proper time, the ingenious mortal could release the contractual hold on the armies of the Nine Hells and allow balance to take hold again, assuming that the chaotic demons have not been allowed to spread too far by that point.  It’s a dangerous game, but one that is highly likely to tempt one who seeks to be all-powerful.” # Session Reference - [[Session 34]]
