Chesebro's lawyer made the following comment, which I find surprising, to say the least.
> Chesebro's attorney, Scott Grubman, framed the plea deal as a win for Chesebro that will allow him to "go back to his family now and he gets his life back."
> "This plea deal absolutely shows, and proves, that he was not and never was the architect of any sort of fake elector plan, anything like that," Grubman said. He noted that the agreement included the record showing Chesebro's crime is [not one of "moral turpitude"](https://www.lawfirm1.com/investigations/crimes-involving-moral-turpitude-meaning-and-examples/) - an important stipulation that could allow him to return to practicing law.
> Grubman added that Chesebro had agreed as part of the deal to testify in future 2020 election proceedings if he's called to testify, but that it "doesn't mean they're gonna call him... and quite frankly I would be somewhat surprised if they did call him."

## Arizona fake electors scheme
[[2023-08-09]]
The New York Times has reported that they have obtained the memo written by Cheeseboro, one of the unnamed conspirators, on the strategy to create slates of fake electors and sew doubt and confusion, and thereby buy time for Trump. In the memo, he acknowledges that the Supreme Court will probably rule against their claim that the president of the senate, Mike Pence, does not have the power to reject votes, but that will still buy time for them to push other strategies.
[Previously Secret Memo Laid Out Strategy for Trump to Overturn Biden’s Win](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/08/us/politics/trump-indictment-fake-electors-memo.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare)
> But even if the plan did not ultimately pass legal muster at the highest level, Mr. Chesebro argued that it would achieve two goals. It would focus attention on claims of voter fraud and “buy the Trump campaign more time to win litigation that would deprive Biden of electoral votes and/or add to Trump’s column.”
The memo lays out her "messaging" strategy, one of who's points is that these fake electors would meet in the states and vote for Trump just as they would if Trump had actually won the state, and…
> The campaign would present that step as “a routine measure that is necessary to ensure” that the correct electoral slate could be counted by Congress if courts or legislatures later concluded that Mr. Trump had actually won the states.

# A Previous Chesebro Memo
The NYTimes reports there was **another** memo m, Cuenca Nov 2020, from Chesebro, that starts the process that's developed in the subsequent memo.
[Memos Show Roots of Trump’s Focus on Jan. 6 and Alternate Electors](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/02/us/politics/trump-jan-6-memos.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare)
> The memos show how just over two weeks after Election Day, Mr. Trump’s campaign was seeking to buy itself more time to undo the results. At the heart of the strategy was the idea that their real deadline was not Dec. 14, when official electors would be chosen to reflect the outcome in each state, but Jan. 6, when Congress would meet to certify the results.
> “It may seem odd that the electors pledged to Trump and Pence might meet and cast their votes on Dec. 14 even if, at that juncture, the Trump-Pence ticket is behind in the vote count, and no certificate of election has been issued in favor of Trump and Pence,” the Nov. 18 memo said. “However, a fair reading of the federal statutes suggests that this is a reasonable course of action.”

> Chesebro claimed to investigators he saw the [alternate slates of Republican electors](https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/18/politics/michigan-fake-electors-bios/index.html) only as a contingency plan to have ready in case the Trump campaign won any of its more than 60 lawsuits challenging the election results — which it didn’t. He also told Michigan investigators that in his conversations with the Trump campaign, he made clear that “state legislatures have no power to override the courts.”
> But just days after the 2020 election, BadgerPundit tweeted that the court battles didn’t matter and that Republican-controlled legislatures should send in their own GOP electors, predicting even then that then-Vice President Mike Pence could use them to throw the election to Trump.
> “You don’t get the big picture. Trump doesn’t have to get courts to declare him the winner of the vote. He just needs to convince Republican legislatures that the election was systematically rigged, but it’s impossible to run it again, so they should appoint electors instead,” wrote BadgerPundit on [November 7, 2020,](https://web.archive.org/web/20201107181652/https:/twitter.com/BadgerPundit/status/1325140117497896966) the day multiple media outlets, including CNN, called the election for Joe Biden.
> Yet in his interview with Michigan investigators, Chesebro said the very opposite, claiming that the entire electors plan was contingent on the courts.
> “I saw no scenario where Pence could count any vote for any state because there hadn’t been a court or a legislature in any state backing any of the alternate electors,” Chesebro said.
