Canadian Holocaust Denier of German origin, publisher of multiple inflammatory texts, who was tried twice for Holocaust denial. The first trial (1985 was overturned on a technicality, the second (1984) during which [[Fred Leuchter]] and [[David Irving]] testified, resulted in his conviction for "did publish a statement or tale, namely, _Did Six Million Really Die?_ that he knows is false and that is likely to cause mischief to the public interest in social and racial tolerance, contrary to the Criminal Code".[^1] His application for Canadian citizenshipt was denied in 1985 and 1994. In 2003 he was labeled by Canadian authorities as a 'national security risk' because of his links to neo-nazi organizations and groups. Apparently he was detained while various legal proceedings against him proceeded. Ultimately, Canada's courts ruled he could be deported back to Germany, where he was tried for his Holocaust Denial and imprisoned, starting in 2007. In 2010 he was released and he died in 2017. Throughout his torturous path through the legal systems of 3 countries, he was surrounded by fellow Holocaust deniers, as well as people who themselves were subject to legal sanction for their speech and/or connections to neo-nazi organizations. For example, one of his lawyers in the action in Germany as struck from teh defense team because he himself has just been convicted in Jan 2005 and 'was sentenced to nine months in prison for inciting racial hatred,'[^2] # URLs # Tags # Footnotes [^1]: [Wikipedia article on Zundel](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Zündel). Zundel died in 2017 [^2]: This is a lawyer named  [Horst Mahler](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horst_Mahler "Horst Mahler"). The list of the miscreants that flocked to Zundel's defense reads like a who's-who of right-wing neo-nazi fandom.
