#zettel #gaming sourced from: [[Pokemon Crystal Clear]] # The Starter Selection in Pokemon Crystal Clear is Great because you get to try New Pokemon in Familiar Circumstances I started with a SLOWPOKE and got to use a Slowking in my main playthrough. Slowking is normally something you can't really get until late in the game or even the post game. This game definitely inspired me to use Slowbro in my [[General Thoughts on my Heart Gold Team from the 2022-2023 Playthrough|2022-2023 playthrough]] of [[Pokemon Heart Gold]], because of the reliability of the bulky water. But if I hadn't wanted to use Slowpoke, I could've used any of the original Starters, Pikachu (which isn't in Gold or Silver), Eevee, Any of the baby Pokemon, Ditto, multiple fire types, Voltorb, Porygon, etc. There are so many more options of starter that it rally leads to a unique experience every single time you want to play through the game (and is compounded by the customization of starting town and order of gym completion). This also mitigates the issue present in the idea that [[The Johto Pokemon Games are Not Nice to players who choose Chikorita as their starter]] (partially be cause you can start anywhere, but mainly that you cna choose a Grass-type starter that has slightly better matchups etc.)
