# Leakage Current in Current [[CdZnTe (CZT) Detectors]] Comes from [[Shot Noise]]
The primary source of leakage current, a source of electronic noise is shot noise. This is a Poisson system that counts the individual electrons that pass the Schottky barrier and in turn is a small source of noise in detectors, all things considered.
"In semiconductors such as CdZnTe detectors, Schottky contacts blocks [sic] most current... however there are still some electrons that can penetrate the Schottky barrier to form leakage current." [^1]
"Leakage caused in electronic noise in CdZnTe detectors is ... shot noise" [^1]

I have seen this in the [[20231003 Cathode Waveform Noise Characterization]]
