# Kitsune Tails and Incorrect Expectations
- ==Kitsune Tail's biggest failing thus, is presenting itself to be more "cozy" than it actually is, even if it isn't by design==

## It's not a Skill Issue, it's Wrong Expectations.
- The backloggd ratings talk about this game being hard and slippery. honestly a skill issue, even if it's not their fault. There's a lot of discussion about the game having level design that doesn't fit the precision platforming. I don't think that's quite right, actually, I think they just wanted to have fast, fluid motion and didn't know how to remove their finger from the run button.

- "Though I feel like this game gets too demanding with platforming that sliding off the same one-tile jump for the 20th time in a row is frustrating. And on top of that, more than plenty of "gotcha" enemy placements. For most of the game it's okay, but definitely between that and how some levels would just be pretty long with no checkpoint, by the cloud and fire worlds my patience was wearing really thin."
- I'm not going to try and defend bad level design, but I will say that this is not something Kitsune Tails that Mario 3 doesn't do.

- See the "they wanted Celeste" section
- Now I'm not saying that games should be easy enough for everyone to complete. But the difficulty spikes of the later worlds of this game remind me of the difficulty jump from World 6 to World 7 of Mario 3.
- YEs, World 8 of Mario 3 is HARD. It's about as HARD as World 6 here in Kitsune Tails. As someone who has cleared both, I feel that this comparison is equivalent.

- "this game feels like they took levels meant for beginner celeste maps, and gave them slippery super meatboy physics, while simultaneously making your character feel like a literal sack of bricks that requires about half a basketball court to get up to speed."
- This person has not played Super Mario Bros. 3, but they've played Boatloads of Celeste. I think that there's big bias towards the feeling of Celeste here.

- I really like this review. They went in expecting Mario 3 and got something more than it!

- "I mainly persisted with this game for the lesbians, and I was glad I did cause there were moments where I enjoyed this game."
- "I think this game has a very bad habit of things happening offscreen that give you no time to react to on a first run so you take unnecessary damage."
- I agree with this! But I didn't find it as bothersome due to the lack of a life system.
- "Meanwhile, Kitsune Tails is designed to go fast, so the lack of precision and things appearing from offscreen with no warning tend to just create a frustrating experience where it feels like you're wrestling for control over the game."
- Is this not true of many platformers? Speed is something you have to earn, it is not something you get by the end of the game. You have to demonstrate mastery of mechanics.

- "It's also extremely queer, unabashedly so; the entire basis of the story is a lesbian love-triangle, and I am all here for it and I love it. It's not really the deepest story or the most complex---it's actually quite basic and simple---, but it's very cute and charming and has me wanting to see it to the end, so that's enough for me."
- Motivated first and foremost by the queer relationship. Not a bad thing by any means.
- "Easy recommend for a comfy platformer."
- idk about thaaaaaaaat

- not a ton of play time on this, but I like this statement a lot:
- "The "marketing" was imho a bit too much on the "it's gay, it's queer, it's super queer!" end, and I say that as an LGBTQ+ person myself. I like games to have merits and stand on their own, and not on "you should buy it because it's queer". And the game certainly wouldn't need it, as it appears to be pretty awesome, but the marketing was sadly mostly focussed on that."
- Was it though?
