# Gen 3 Kanto Games lacking the Physical Special Split gives them an identity
[[Pokemon Fire Red]] and [[Pokemon Leaf Green]] are games before the physical-special split. That is, every Grass type move is special and every Ghost type move is physical. This means that there are some Pokemon, like Gyarados and Gengar that are undercut by their own typing. These problems were later remedied in Generation 4 to the delight of nearly every Pokémon video gamer fan.
I think ultimately I don't mind that this iteration of Kanto doesn't have the physical special split, because that itself is a flaw that adds texture to the game experience. I think it might be weird to admit that I think I would rather have some mons that are shitty and hard to use rather than each mon be hyper optimized to maximize its potential.
And if nothing else, given that [[The best way to play any retro Pokémon game is to emulate it]], if I want to play a version of Kanto with the Physical-Special split, I can just find a romhack that does that.
