# Why Do You Always Kill Gods in JRPGs?
[URL:: https://youtu.be/IEUqLL8J4gI]

Basically the idea is that the presence of "false gods leading to societal ruin" have been present in Japanese culture from as far back as the introduction of Buddhism to Japan.
## General Notes
- The best Case Study in the video is the Shinra corporation, Jenova, and Sephiroth in [[Final Fantasy VII]]. Shinra literally translates to "God Conglomerate", "Jenova" is just Jehovah with the Latin word "nova" applied, and Sephiroth is an application of Jenova's goals through force which reflects the government's role in Japan.
- This is definitely the case because in Japanese culture, rarely are confrontations presented directly. Whereas the God killing in Western cultures is about raising stakes, the idea of killing "God" or "the powerful figure in society" is a subtle form of cultural rebellion against the foreign, often capitalist, forces that seem unstoppable from an individual perspective.
