The sketch of the face was created by Italian marketer Andrea Natella for the website "Ever Dream This Man?". The face spawned countless memes related to lucid dreaming in 2009. "This Man" was ultimately debunked by 4chan users after it was surmised that the meme was an example of [[Guerrilla Marketing]]. This conclusion came as a result of the website host of "This Man" also shared a site that acted as "a fake advertising agency which designed subversive hoaxes and created weird art projects exploring pornography, politics, and advertising." Despite being confirmed by Natella in 2012 that this was a viral stunt, people still continued to investigate "This Man" into the mid-2010s, comparing the likeness to Barack Obama's first presidential portrait, and Robbie Rotten. Present as a cameo in two of Iris's Somniums in [[AI The Somnium Files]].
