#index #people/inspiration # Kotaro Uchikoshi ![](https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uchikoshi.png) Kotaro Uchikoshi is a Japanese video game director and writer who has written, worked on, and influenced a number of my favorite pieces of media. ## Writing Style Uchikoshi tends to prioritize storylines over characters, which can lead to some very 2D characters in a these very complicated plots. His goal is to write a story that people will remember, regardless of overall quality. He typically determines a twist and then works backwards to make sure that the twist shapes the narrative. He also attempts to have a balanced cast in regards to age, gender, and personality. When writing, he tends to collect webpages of information and topics that he found while browsing aimlessly, which can lead to some interesting tangents in games (like the Ice-9 conversation in the freezer in [[9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors |999]]). Also incredibly based as evidenced by his Twitter presence. ## His Video Games that I've played - [[9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors]] (2009) - Zero Escape: [[Virtue's Last Reward]] (2012) - Zero Time Dilemma (2016) - [[AI The Somnium Files]] (2019) - [[AI The Somnium Files - Nirvana Initiative]] (2022) ## Our Twitter Interaction And we've interacted on Twitter now too :] ![](https://twitter.com/Uchikoshi_Eng/status/1614120011773399041?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
