# My Thoughts
Mario Galaxy is a Mario Game that masquerades as a game similar to Sunshine and 64, but somehow seamless reintroduces the idea of levels with defined starts and finishes. the game is not a sandbox game, but rather a linear, start-to-finish game that pretends to be open world. This isn't a problem to me. I like that each level is clearly defined and that you have to exit the level in order to then do a new level. It gives me time to breathe and appreciate the world I had just finished exploring, because goddamn it, it's SPACE. It's so big and vast, and often empty and lonesome. Sometimes, you just need to take a second to process the level you just played, and appreciate the majesty of the world that has been created. I like that. It gives me time to cool down and readjust.
The 3D level design is great too, the mapping to 3D space and the gravity level design simply taking the transformations of very simple geometries to create such beautiful spaces. I really really enjoy it.
# Favorite Moments / Memories
- Space Junk Galaxy is my favorite Galaxy in the entire Galaxy collection because it actually *feels* like space. It gets the vibe. It's so abstract, and *not Mario*, but so emblematically captures the field of space. Battle Belt Galaxy from the second game does kind of capture the vibe of space, but Space Junk really gets it done best. It's the best Galaxy aesthetically in the game, by far.
- Bedroom has the best collection of galaxies, sans Honeyclimb
- Freezeflame Galaxy has the best individual levels
- Gusty Garden is a classic level
- Dusty Dune has some of the most interesting "longer levels" in the game.
- Kitchen Galaxies are a close second and all very memorable
- Beach Bowl, Ghostly, and Buoy Base ROCK, Bubble Breeze and Drip Drop are meh.
# What were you doing when not playing this?
- I first played this game back in fifth grade or so when we first got a Wii, I played a lot of it in the living room, I remember over Christmas break with my friends.
- Streamed it to test my new streaming PC and I finished the Mario playthrough 100% in about 4 short sittings.
