It's a little bit antiquated in its systems, but it's fun. Not my favorite thing ever, and definitely not necessary to play [[Chrono Cross]], but it's a fun little supplemental piece if you have played and beaten [[Chrono Trigger]]. I might come back to it another time because the concept is really intriguing to me. I think it's fair to count it as "finished" since I basically got to the final encounter, just played it wrong. # Playthrough Notes - It's a bedtime game!!! - Quite literally a visual novel. It's like a choose your own adventure book! - Maybe I had ought to make a map of this game somehow. - Or maybe I don't and should let me mind map it out and let my heart explore. - So I got the ending my first go of it where Lynx killed me no matter what. I played honestly enough, not consulting a walkthrough and found out that the only way to get an ending that isn't Lynx killing you is to make sure Kid likes you, and the only way to do that is to play the game a certain way. This means that if I want to beat this game I'll need to replay it. Which is fine, but I don't feel like replaying a 2 hour game at the moment. I got most of the experience and I think I'll just watch the conclusion on youtube or something. # My Thoughts - Hard not to think of the viper Manor segment from [[Chrono Cross]] as I played the first twenty minutes. Then again, the story is essentially the proto version of that segment of the game, so my thoughts are not unfounded - Also some of the music pieces are SNES versions of songs that would later appear in Chrono Cross - Girl Who Stole the Stars in a slightly lower key makes it feel nostalgic rather than wishful in Chrono Cross. Might also be an interesting exploration from hearing the later piece first and having that shape my thoughts about the song. - Kid's backstory is identical to that in Chrono Cross, though they haven't name-dropped Lucca at all. - I stuck every single one of Kid's items into the Marble Face's mouth and they all comically did nothing. - The description of the tongue in the marble mouth was a little unsettling at the very least. - It's an interesting look at an older style of a visual novel style game. the problems I have with it are the fact that it's just not as easy to play? I mean, that's the point of the older games, this game elucidates WHY so many VNs now have more convenience features. - [[Modern Retro Gaming Mandates Convenience Features]] # Favorite Moments / Memories - # What were you doing when not playing this? - Playing in BED, it's a sleepytime game! - I was looking for a game I could play in bed one night after coming home from the gym. I have a problem with commitment and dealing with perceived large mental loads over a short period of time. I would've played [[Linda Cube Again]], but I didn't want to play it for only 20 minutes or so. I figured I wanted a game that require minimal complicated thought or input, a low action game. - I should play more visual novels in bed - I should read more in bed. - Or at least as long as you make the right choices while you're half asleep it is! # Relevant Links
