Really nice, there's definitely cultural and literary themes in this that I didn't pick up on, but feel like they're there.
# Playthrough Notes
- Played on my 3DS, the way it was meant to be played. Finished 23/26 "episodes"
# My Thoughts
- [[Is Attack of the Friday Monsters Worth the Price of Admission]]
- And how do we even describe this game?
- Very Millennium Kitchen. Very easy-going with some plot twists that actually made me laugh.
- It's clear to see how this game draws from some of the previous works from Millennium Kitchen.
- There are two different control schemes, using the circle pad, or using the "driving" controls used in previous games like [[Boku No Nastuyasumi 2]], as described by [[Tim Rogers]] in [[¥action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi]]
- I do like the controls where you hold 'B' and turn using the D-Pad, especially with the immediate turnaround control. It made managing screen transitions through the game much easier to navigate, which in turn made for more cinematic experiences, especially on screens where later the kaiju and hero were fighting. By not spending too much time thinking about navigating a screen change, I was able to appreciate what was on the screen in the first place.
- And that's crucial given that a lot of the static frames are used to eventual show bits of the game off in some capacity.
- God, listen to this game. Just *listen to it*. the care put into the soundscape is immaculate and it immerses you into the game as a result.
- I particularly enjoy the railroad crossing chiming
- I gotta look into tokusatsu stuff more, I think that would really help me appreciate this game even more.
## the 25-year old adult
- The TV producer girl is 25 years old, and is presented as an adult, but with the drive to establish herself in her industry. She is presented as an *adult* who is *old* in the story. Here I am, a 25 year old, playing the game.
- haha, Christmas Cake joke, something something choosing career instead of a traditional lifestyle
- But she's really cool to Sohta and you feel cool having her as a friend in this game.
- It makes me think about my own presence in the world. I as a 25-year old person still view myself as a young person breaking into an industry of some kind. I don't see myself as an "older person", but in the eyes of these kids, I'd be no different than any other adult. Maybe a little younger, but old enough to be squarely an "adult". I would be someone "in on the secret" of the Friday Monsters.
- The further I get from the game, the more I really appreciate just what it is. It really is a space to explore life as someone else, in a place where you can actually be unsure of what's real and what is not real. It's a very charming game.
# Favorite Moments / Memories
- I loved having that moment of realization that the reason some of the more obtuse, bottom-up camera angles on scenes near the plains from the river was so that we could then later see the kaiju and mechas fighting each other.
