# Flicker Noise or 1/f Noise or Pink Noise
Motivation: understanding proper filtering techniques
Flicker noise, or 1/f noise, is a low frequency noise characterized by a [[Power Spectral Density]]:
$
S_{bf} = \frac{S_{bf1}}{|f^\alpha|}
$
where:
- $\alpha \approx 1$
- and $S_{bf1}$ is the values of $S_{bf}(f)$ at 1 Hz.
- The variance is the integral from $(-\infty, \infty)$ of $S_{bf}$
