# animatics
Animatics are animated [[story|storyboards]]. They are the first attempt at adding timing to fixed images. The goal is to find the pace of actions and to see how well the sequence actually works in motion.
Just like storyboards, animatics don’t need to be well-drawn. Stick figures and scribbled arrows can be just as functional as better quality drawings. These are meant to be quick and rough studies, not finished animations. Often visual effects and transitions are studied. Sound effects and audio track can be added too.
Just like with [[framing and blocking]], this can be a time-consuming process. The effort made to refine things through animatics will make the final animation that much better in the end.
