You always have Kaylee, the dating coordinator, who can also sing some dates. There is a bus boy/girl, but they can be cut. In general, try to include daters 20 and 21 who sing the Fragile Heart duet. Daters 22 and 23 who sing the cell phone duet, are not usually cut either. In a small production, the bartender and waitress can sing some dates, usually not playing themselves. Bartender, Baritone Waitress, Mezzo soprano Bus Boy/Girl Mute (one line in Dater #5) or with The song “Party in my head”#5B (role can be cut entirely) Kaylee, the dating coordinator, Soprano or mezzo Kaylee can participate in some dates Dater #22 (OSD), Baritone Dater #23, Soprano All the rest of the dates, numbered 1 and on, are ad lib. Include what you want. GENDER SPECIFIC ROLES AND NOTES Daters #9 (Talkative Girl) and #10 (Steampunk Girl) are specifically female Dater #19 (Car Man) is male Dater #13 Duet should take place after Dater #13 (Combat Photographer) and 13B (Hostage) Dater #12 should be followed by 12B (Leaving) and the Coordinator’s song 12C There is an alternate location for 12C very near the end. Ex-Duet should take place sometime after Dater #9 (Talkative Girl) and Dater #19 (Car Man) Dater #1 was always first, but it is no longer mandatory.  There is a duet for the Bartender and Waitress, "Order up." The opening and closing scenes are fixed, but the order of the dates and the duets is left up to the producers. Voice types and even most genders are flexible as well. The opera is so flexible that it has been done with six performers, but also with forty+ and an intermission. It does not need to be done realistically. Think of it as your lego or mindcraft and built it how you want, around your resources and singers.
