Short, Long, Current season Short Michael Ching is an opera composer/librettist, songwriter, conductor, and former arts administrator. His opera, SPEED DATING TONIGHT! (2013) has been performed over one hundred forty times. His other popular works include BUOSO'S GHOST, RSBE, and NOTES ON VIARDOT. Michael is the former Artistic Director of Opera Memphis. He is currently composer-in-residence at Taos Opera Institute. Michael's current projects include LOST AND FOUND (2027) for Texas A&M University and OVERHEARD (2028) for Taos Opera Institute. For eighteen years, Michael was Artistic Director of Opera Memphis. He also held positions on the music staffs operas of Miami, Virginia, Chautauqua, and Amarillo. He is the former composer-in-residence at the Savannah Voice Festival, a position he currently holds at the Taos Opera Institute. Michael studied composition at Duke University with Robert Ward and at the Houston Opera Studio with Carlisle Floyd. He was born in Honolulu and lives in St. Paul.
